Depending on their purposes, fasteners are divided into the following:

• Anti-setting lock (loosening)
• Anti-rotation lock
• Retainer

In most cases, the numerous types of fasteners do not represent a single lock for all of the above-mentioned fastening tasks. Therefore, knowledge of the possible causes of failure is very important when using fasteners.
